Emergency Care

Serious health problems, injuries, and illness require immediate care. When your pet urgently needs to see a veterinarian, the caring and skilled team at Animal Hospital of Old Saybrook is here.

If you think your pet may be experiencing a health emergency, please call us immediately at (860) 399-6249 so that we can provide support and help you to determine next steps. While we accommodate emergency cases whenever we are able, we are not an emergency hospital and will in most cases refer you directly to one of our local emergency care partners. If a referral is required, we will do everything we can to support you and your pet by:

  • Calling anhead to prepare emergency staff for your arrival
  • Forwarding your pet’s records and pre-registering you at the facility
  • Obtaining post-visit records to keep our own records current
  • Providing follow-up care for your pet

As your pet’s primary care doctor, we’re always here for you when you need us most.

Unsure if your pet has an actual medical emergency? We understand that it can be difficult to determine if your pet requires immediate medical care. Because medical issues can quickly progress into more serious problems, we urge you to call us so we can help assess whether your pet needs emergency care.

If you think your pet has eaten something poisonous:

Call us, or if after hours, contact the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center’s 24-hour hotline at (888) 426-4435. Trained toxicologists will consider the age and health of your pet, what was ingested, and then make a recommendation about what action should be taken.
